The History of ALC Church
The History of ALC
If you want to see God's work come alive, you've got to see ALC for yourself.
A living example of the ideal definition of a
church, A living example of the ideal definition of a church, ALC is not just a building; it's the people who worship there. ALC was founded in 1981 by Dr. Ed Montgomery and his wife Saundra Elaine. The first church was located inside of a small office, a mere 1800 sq feet at 5900 Allday Drive. The congregation consisted of 31 people, including the Pastor and his family. With the church's beginnings in place, Dr. Montgomery's vision began to take form. The 80's brought a membership explosion and ALC was moving on up. ALC moved to its second location just a few feet away to 9429 Harwin Drive. Even in their new larger home, the congregation and Dr. Ed's ministry continued to grow.
After a year and half, like a growing child, ALC once again felt growing pains. Even with three Sunday morning services and one evening service, churchgoers were crammed wall-to-wall. A new home was needed, yet another move. The ideal location was less than 2 miles away at 11230 Harwin Dr. This time the church measured over 9,300 square feet.

Eight years later, construction began on the fourth location with over 3.4 acres of property. Members of the congregation combined resources and built their own edifice, affectionately nicknamed, "The Cathedral". This expansion was an absolute necessity as the rapidly growing membership brought equally explosive ministerial growth and the addition of more full-time staff.

ALC's current and permanent main sanctuary boasts majestic 35-foot ceilings, comfortably housing thousands of members. Congregants love the Michelangelo inspired painting and dramatic backlighting. Adjacent to the main prayer sanctuary is a 9,300 square foot building at 11230 Harwin that houses the youth and education center. And most recently, ALC acquired an entire office complex at an adjacent property solely for church office space. Now that's growth!

Abundant Life Cathedral has expanded from an office-sized "family church" to an enormous ministry including a World Outreach Center. It has been recognized as one of the fastest growing churches in the nation, with extensive ministry and outreach services including television and radio broadcasts. How does this happen? It happens through the hand of God. He plants a vision in one man. That man inspires a congregation through God's word to yearn to see His face. And that congregation fulfills the Great Commission of Jesus, spreading His message to the world. What happens next? It's all up to Him.
